Capsule Geology

A belt of variably dolomitic limestone of the Hadrynian Cunningham Formation (Cariboo Group) outcrops just east of Mount Kimball and continues northwestward for 17 kilometres to Lanezi Lake. The belt varies from less than a kilometre to 6 kilometres in width. To the west the limestone is conformably overlain or faulted against chloritic schists, phyllites and quartzites of the Yankee Belle Formation (Cariboo Group). To the east the belt contacts phyllites, schists and sandstones of the Hadrynian Isaac Formation (Cariboo Group).

The Mount Kimball area has good all season road access via West Fraser Timber's 3100 road which connects onto the Barkerville Highway near the town of Wells. To reach the area, the 3100 road is followed easterly from Wells for about 40 kilometres to a bridge crossing on the Cariboo River. From here the road extends along the south side of Matthew River.
